The verdict

French press. Nice acidity, clear orange notes, decent body and a smooth finish. I drank this almost three months past its roast date — my bad — so fresher it would probably have scored higher.

What the roaster says

Bungelungi Estate, located in Paya Dedep, Jagong Jeget, Central Aceh, was established by Eko Kundariyanto and is now run together with his son Ernanda, representing a new generation of farmers focused on quality, microlots, and experimental processing. Sitting at 1,600–1,650 MASL, the farm mainly grows P88, Ateng, and Abyssinia. While coffee has long been grown in Jagong Jeget, it was traditionally sent to Takengon and sold under the Gayo name. Today, producers like Bungelungi are now processing their own coffee, allowing the area to begin establishing its own identity.

Coffee undergoes a 144-hour Carbonic Maceration Natural, where whole cherries are fermented in sealed drums under shade, flushed with CO2 to create a low-oxygen environment. The cherries are then slowly dried on raised beds for around 20 days, allowing moisture to stabilize and sweetness to develop.
